Choosing Self-Determination means you have control over the support and services outlined in your Individual Program Plan (IPP). SequoiaSD’s services are tailored to meet the unique needs of the individuals and agencies we work with, so you can focus on managing Direct Care Professionals, their schedules, and the other supports and services you receive.
Supporting Self-Determination in California
SequoiaSD provides clerical, administrative, and payroll support to families and self-advocates who choose support services through self-determination.We support two of the three models of Fiscal Management Services (FMS) for those who choose self-determination in California: Bill Payer and Sole-Employer
Bill Payer Model
The Bill Payer model is ideal for individuals who prefer not to directly employ Direct Care Professionals. Instead, SequoiaSD manages the administrative aspects of the supports and services included in your IPP. Our services under the Bill Payer model include:
- Processing payments for the supports and services specified in your IPP.
- Keeping comprehensive records related to your services.
- Coordinating with your Care Manager and others to assist as your needs evolve.
- Ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Sole-Employer Model
The Sole-Employer model offers you maximum control. As the direct employer of your DCPs, you are fully responsible for them. SequoiaSD helps you comply with employment laws, verify qualifications, conduct background checks, pay bills, and process payroll. Our services under the Sole-Employer model include:
- Handling enrollment paperwork for all DCPs and participants.
- Conducting background checks for DCPs.
- Tracking time, processing timesheets, and administering payments.
- Facilitating electronic timesheet submissions.
- Withholding and filing payroll taxes for you and your DCPs.
- Reporting and filing taxes.
- Providing access to payroll reports through our web portal.
- Processing payments for the supports and services listed in your IPP.
- Maintaining comprehensive records related to your services.
- Coordinating with your Service Coordinator and others as your needs change.
- Ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations.
