April is World Autism Acceptance Month (WAAM). This month SequoiaSD promotes understanding, inclusion, and support for people with autism. We also encourage acceptance of different abilities and perspectives.
History of WAAM
- WAAM started in 2007 to increase autism awareness worldwide.
- The United Nations declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day.
- Over time, the focus shifted from awareness to acceptance.
Autism Facts
- About 1 in 36 children in the U.S. has autism (CDC).
- Autism affects people of all backgrounds.
- Early support and services help people with autism thrive.
Autism Society’s Road to Acceptance Campaign
The Autism Society’s Road to Acceptance campaign highlights people with autism and their families. It promotes awareness, inclusion, and the need for more support systems. The campaign encourages individuals and communities to create a more accepting world. It does this by sharing stories and advocating for meaningful change. Visit the Autism Society’s YouTube Channel to watch stories from the Autism Community.
