It’s March and SequoiaSD is celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM). DDAM has been around since 1987. President Regan dedicated the month to building awareness for individuals with disabilities.
The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) runs a campaign every March to highlight individuals with disabilities. The social campaign focuses on building strong communities that include individuals with disabilities. Anyone can get involved by sharing a story through video or photo. The month-long celebration covers topics including:
- Education
- Employment
- Community living
- Accessibility
- Inclusion
The NACDD produces a resource guide during the month. It is updated every week with informative content and anyone can contribute. Resource guide content can include:
- Videos
- Toolkits
- News Articles
- Photos
- Personal Stories
The campaign also highlights artwork made by individuals with disabilities. Artists can submit their work to be shown in the campaign and are given credit for any work displayed.
If you’d like to submit content for the resource guide or artwork, you can do so by emailing Rafael Rolon-Muniz at rrolon-muniz@nacdd.org. Participation is also encouraged through social media by using the following hashtags:
- #DDawareness2024
- #DDAM2024
- #AWorldofOpportunities
- #newOpportunities
